This week's football matchups From Fridaynightohio.com

Central (2-0, 5-0) at Ridgewood (1-1, 4-1)
WHEN Tonight, 7.
LAST WEEK Central 21, Sandy Valley 17; Ridgewood 34, Strasburg 0.
LAST MEETING Central Catholic 8, Ridgewood 2 in 2013.
NOTABLE The Saints hit the 5-0 point at midseason by winning a thriller last week, while the Generals won by a big margin.
Both teams see this as a must-win game, not just from the perspective of chasing an IVC title, but in the hunt for a playoff spot as well.
Central got a huge game from quarterback Hunter Striker last week. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for the game-winning score in the fourth quarter after leading the Saints on an 80-yard drive. He also intercepted a pass in the second quarter and drove the Saints 99 yards.
Cade Cummings had nine catches for 132 yards and a touchdown for Central, while Max Fragasse also had nine catches and a touchdown.
Ridgewood ran for 239 yards in a Friday night win over Strasburg.
Zach Donley ran for two scores for the Generals, while Caleb Tingle, Billy Bailey and Jhett Slusser also ran for touchdowns.
Both teams were solid defensively last week. The Saints gave up 118 yards, and Ridgewood surrendered 72.
Malvern (0-5, 0-2) at Garaway (5-0, 2-0)
WHEN Tonight, 7.
LAST WEEK East Canton 23, Malvern 19; Garaway 42, Newcomerstown 6.
LAST MEETING Malvern 42, Garaway 34 in 2013.
NOTABLE What a difference a year makes.
Almost one year ago, when these two teams met, the Hornets were plowing their way to another Inter-Valley Conference title, while the Pirates were searching for an identity behind a freshman quarterback.
The roles have reversed. Since this game last year, Garaway has gone 9-0, while Malvern is 3-7 and searching for their first win of the season.
The Hornets were close to picking up a win last week, but came up short late in the game against East Canton.
Running back Nick Masters led the way with 84 yards and a score for the Hornets, while freshman quarterback Drew Hutchison tossed a touchdown pass to Jalen Graves. The Hornets will need to be much more productive on offense to keep pace with the high-octane offense of the Pirates.
Garaway survived a scare last week when quarterback RJ Jacobs hobbled off the field with what was originally thought to be a separated left shoulder. The gutsy sophomore missed only one offensive series and led his team to two more touchdowns in their rout of Newcomerstown.
In fact, Jacobs finished the game with 415 yards passing and three touchdowns, while Quinn Miller and Conner Troyer each had over 100 yards receiving. Versatile Ethan Slentz had a pair of short rushing touchdowns for the Pirates.
Newcomerstown (1-1, 2-3) at Sandy Valley (1-1, 3-2)
WHEN Tonight, 7.
LAST WEEK Garaway 42, Newcomerstown 6; Central Catholic 21, Sandy Valley 17.
LAST MEETING Sandy Valley 31, Newcomerstown 14 in 2013.
NOTABLE With both teams at 1-1 in league play, this game will go a long way to deciding which squad will be a contender in the Inter-Valley Conference.
Sandy Valley had its streak of three consecutive shutouts ended last week, but the Cardinals still have surrendered just 62 points in five weeks.
Sandy Valley quarterback Lucas Dieffenbaugher had two interceptions last week, but threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to put his team in the lead.
Newcomerstown put up 147 yards rushing against unbeaten Garaway last week but didn’t score until Jason Garland went in from the 2 in the fourth quarter.

Central Catholic (0-0, 3-0) at Malvern (0-0, 0-3)
WHEN: Tonight, 7.
LAST WEEK: Central Catholic 40, Rosecrans 20; Sebring McKinley 35, Malvern 13.
LAST MEETING: Malvern 44, Central 35 in 2013.
NOTABLE: The Saints and Hornets hook up in an Inter-Valley Conference opener.
Central’s Hunter Striker threw for 374 and four touchdowns for Central in the lopsided win at Rosecrans. Cade Cummings caught nine balls for 246 and two scores. Striker completed 15 of 28 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns, and Cummings caught five passes for 179 yards in the first half to stake the Saints to a 27-3 halftime lead.
After Malvern jumped out to an early 7-0 first-quarter lead, Sebring McKinley responded with 28 straight points en route to the win. Collen Thomas had four receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown for Malvern, who is off to its worst start since 2006.
Garaway (0-0, 3-0) at Ridgewood (0-0, 3-0)
WHEN: Tonight, 7.
LAST WEEK: Garaway 21, Indian Valley 20; Ridgewood 35, River View 0.
LAST MEETING: Garaway 21, Ridgewood 12 in 2013.
NOTABLE: It will be a battle of unbeatens as the Inter-Valley Conference schedule kicks off.
Both teams play in Region 19 of Division VI, so a bundle of playoff points are up for grabs.
Garaway, ranked No. 10 in the state AP poll, beat Indian Valley last week thanks to a stellar game by the Pirates’ defense. For most of the game, it controlled the scrimmage line.
The offensive combination of R.J. Jacobs to Connor Troyer helped the Pirates grab an early lead. But it will be a different beast to tackle this week for the Pirates. They face a Generals team that likes to throw the ball, so the Pirates’ secondary will be tested. Ridgewood has given up only 19 points in its first three games.
Ridgewood quarterback Caleb Tingle had a big night against the Black Bears — 164 yards rushing and 61 yards passing on a 5-of-5 showing. His 70-yard scoring burst on the first play from scrimmage set the tone for Ridgewood.
Zach Donley had a punt return for a score and caught a TD pass from Tingle, while Jon Barker added a scoring run for the Generals.
